Marvel Defenders Review

I have been looking forward to this show for MONTHS! And I definitely can’t say that I’m disappointed. I did have some reservations at first about the Iron Fist and Luke Cage being in it, but like I said, I’m not disappointed. Here are some of the things that I loved about this show:

Color Schemes

Did you notice that The Defenders has a very specific color scheme for each character, especially in the beginning? The color schemes/camera filters go as follows:

  • Alexandra Reid: White
  • Daredevil: Red
  • Iron Fist: Green
  • Luke Cage:  Yellow
  • Jessica Jones: Purple/blue

Every time the camera switches to a new character, the filter changes accordingly and so does the color schemes. For example, Daredevil is always bathed in a red light. And as much as I didn’t like Alexandra, I did like how she was associated with white. White is the color of purity, of innocence. And although Alexandra puts up a front, she certainly doesn’t have that reputation.

On top of the color schemes, I loved the artistic shots of the camera. Such as when the camera shifts to the mirror on the table and captures Alexandra from there rather than head on. Or when Stick and Matthew Murdock are talking to one another and they have large shadows on the wall behind them. The way The Defenders was filmed was so beautiful artistic and I absolutely loved it.

Iron Fist

Okay, so I’m sure we can all agree that the Iron Fist tv show could have been so much better. It had a lot of potential and it just didn’t quite get there. However, his appearance in The Defenders completely flip-flopped his character around. Sure, he’s still weird, naive, and stubborn, but his fighting scenes are AMAZING. Not only that, but he actually uses his Iron Fist more than a couple times, unlike in the Iron Fist tv show. The Defenders captures Danny Rand as the warrior he’s meant to be.

Daredevil (Obviously)

Who doesn’t love the blind ninja? I certainly do! I got hooked on Daredevil immediately and he quickly became my favorite vigilante. He’s just so unique. After all, he’s BLIND and he fights like a bad***. Plus, he can definitely take a punch. How many times did he get the crap beaten out of him in Daredevil but still continued to fight? Too many times to count. Not only that but some of the fighting scenes in Daredevil were artistically shot and definitely amazing.

The Defenders is definitely an awesome show, and although you have to be familiar with the characters in the show by watching Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage firstit’s definitely worth it.
